This dual/joint degree program in nursing with Queensborough Community College (QCC) and the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) enables qualified students enrolled in the QCC AAS in Nursing program to seamlessly transition to the BS in Nursing at CUNY SPS. Students in this dual/joint program are guided in the selection of courses by an advisor in order to efficiently progress through the general education and nursing program requirements. 

Career and Academic Prospects

The BS in Nursing program prepares students to assume leadership positions in hospitals, community agencies, and long-term care facilities across the metropolitan area and beyond. Students gain the tools needed to meet the challenges of the evolving healthcare system, as well as the knowledge and experience required to move forward into graduate level studies and advanced practice nursing.

Completion Rates

CUNY SPS RN-BS benchmark for program completion rates:

75% of students will complete the RN- BS program within five years. Using CCNE guidelines for calculating these rates, the five-year completion rates are:

  • 2019-2024 = 94%
  • 2018-2023 = 96%
  • 2017-2022 = 96%

Job Placement Statistics

Undergraduate program outcome: 80% of RN-BS alumni will report employment as a RN within twelve months.

Admissions Criteria

To be eligible for the CUNY SPS-QCC Dual/Joint Program, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled at Queensborough Community College;
  • Have completed a Pre-clinical sequence at QCC with a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and;
  • Have taken the National League for Nursing Pre-admission RN exam.

CUNY SPS nursing professor, Dr. Olga Kagan, recently co-authored a study that was published in the "Nursing Management" journal. In the article "Nurses' Shared Experience in the Embodiment of Innovation," Dr. Kagan's research team explored how nurses engage with innovation through collaborative hackathon experiences. NYC Office of Talent and Workforce Development

In honor of National Nurses Week and Month this May, the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development (NYC Talent) has announced a partnership with the City University of New York (CUNY) and the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) to launch the first-of-its-kind Nurse Fellowship Academy. The Academy, which will provide upskilling to over 300 working nurses for clinical preceptor, educator, and leadership roles in NYC healthcare settings, is being offered to eligible students in CUNY SPS' online nursing programs.

CUNY SPS Celebrates the Power of Nurses at 2025 Nursing Convocation and Pinning Ceremony
