DOD Tuition Assistance
The Department of Defense (DoD) provides tuition assistance (TA) for qualifying active-duty and reserve service members to broaden their education to support professional and self-development goals during off-duty hours. TA offers various fully online degree programs for service members seeking to start or continue their education. TA eligibility varies by command; contact your Education Center / Education Officer or speak with your chain of command to see if you qualify.
The Tuition Assistance system you use will depend on your branch of service.
The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) is an approved DoD TA institution, participating in each of the TA systems through the CUNY Graduate School and University Center (OPEID 00476500).
CUNY SPS U.S. Military Bachelor’s Degree Completion Scholarship
The CUNY SPS U.S. Military Bachelor’s Degree Completion Scholarship provides supplementary funding to new and continuing CUNY SPS students who participate in the DoD Tuition Assistance program to cover any out-of-pocket balance from tuition and other school fees after TA has been applied. Interested students may apply online through the CUNY SPS Office of Scholarships. Awardees will also be strongly encouraged to participate in events designed to build community among military and veteran students attending CUNY SPS.
New York State Army National Guard, Air Guard, and Naval Militia
The New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs offers tuition assistance to members of the NYS Army National Guard, Air Guard, and Naval Militia through the NY State Recruitment Incentive and Retention Program (RIRP). Eligible Guardsmen receive tuition for SUNY/CUNY schools per semester. Speak with your chain of command to see if you qualify.
