Beginning in Fall 2025, the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) BA in Psychology degree program will offer students the opportunity to focus on the field of Health Psychology as part of their advanced coursework.

“We’re excited to introduce the new Health Psychology track in our online psychology undergraduate program,” said Dr. Carla Marquez-Lewis, academic director of the CUNY SPS online psychology programs. “This addition gives our students a powerful foundation for careers in mental health, health education, and other fields where understanding the connection between mind and body is essential.”

Under this new track, students will explore the relationship between psychology science and health behavior, illness, and care systems as a way to increase their knowledge of Health Psychology and further tailor their competencies to career opportunities in healthcare.

The track’s coursework will provide students with a robust knowledge base in the psychological study of behavioral health and in the rigorous use of methodologies for conducting health-focused research in community and clinical settings. As part of this curriculum, students will take core classes Health Psychology (PSY 362) and Health Behavior Change (PSY 364), along with an elective.

Designed to serve as a foundation for the Health Psychology field, this new track will support students interested in exploring careers in mental health, public health, health education, research, clinical psychology, and allied health, among others.

Health Psychology is the latest track offered to BA in Psychology students. Other track options for undergrads in the program include Organizational Psychology, Psychological Development, and Psychopathology. Through these four tracks, students will develop competencies in communication skills, sociocultural and international awareness, personal development, and career planning and development.

Like the rest of the CUNY SPS BA in Psychology program, students following the Health Psychology track will be able to pursue their studies completely online, allowing them to read course materials, participate in class discussions, and complete assignments on their own time and schedule.

In related news, a Certificate in Health Psychology has been approved and will launch in Spring 2025 at CUNY SPS. More information on this program to come shortly.

Recognized for its quality, affordability, and accessibility, the CUNY SPS BA in Psychology program has been ranked among the top ten in the nation on U.S. News & World Report’s list of Best Online Bachelor’s in Psychology programs over the past few years, along with other top ratings.
