Annual Scholarships

Scholarships and awards are subject to financial availability, and the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) reserves the right to reduce or rescind any scholarship or award if financial circumstances dictate. Scholarships may not be deferred. Recipients must use the scholarship in the year(s) for which it is awarded. CUNY employees receiving tuition waivers are not eligible for CUNY SPS scholarships.

Bob Martin Memorial Scholarship

Established by Dr. Zeita-Marion Lobley, Director of Student Services, in memory of her late husband.

Award Amount: $1500, based on financial need and academic merit. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Completed at least 6 credits at the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS)
  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS online bachelor's or master's degree program on a part- or full-time basis
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Undergraduate students must be within 30 credits of graduation, and graduate students must be within 12 credits of graduation

CUNY SPS Summer Scholarship

The CUNY School of Professional Studies Summer 2022 Scholarship is open to any student with a 2.0 GPA or higher and who is enrolled in a CUNY SPS bachelor's degree program on a part- or full-time basis as a first-degree bachelor’s student.

Award Amount: Up to $500.00, Tuition-only scholarship. Based on financial need and academic merit.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Applicant must be a matriculated undergraduate degree-seeking student
  • Applicant must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Applicant must file a 2022-2023 FAFSA application

CUNY SPS U.S. Military Bachelor’s Degree Completion Scholarship

Established by the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) Foundation to support its military student community. This scholarship aims to provide students with partial tuition scholarships. The CUNY SPS U.S. Military Bachelor’s Degree Completion Scholarship will be offered to active-duty and qualified reserve military students currently using or planning to use Department of Defense Tuition Assistance to fund their undergraduate education. Typically, the Department of Defense pays up to $250 per semester hour, leaving the student with a remaining balance; this scholarship will cover the out-of-pocket balance of tuition and fees. Selected scholars will be awarded from the time of admission until degree completion, provided they continue to remain eligible.

Award Amount: Varies depending on how many transfer credits apply to the degree requirements upon admission.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS undergraduate degree program
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 3 credits for each awarded semester (including summer and winter sessions)
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Student must be active-duty service member and qualified reserve personnel eligible for Tuition Assistance
  • Applicants must be able to provide documentation to demonstrate current military status

A student called to duty in the United States armed forces who is unable to meet minimum enrollment requirement will maintain their scholarship if otherwise qualified.

First Generation Student Success Scholarship

This scholarship was established to support incoming or continuing first generation undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at CUNY SPS. First Generation is defined as having parents who have not graduated from an institution of higher learning (associate’s degree or beyond).

Award Amount: $500.00, based on eligibility and merit.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in the semester for which the scholarship is awarded
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA or higher for matriculated students
  • Please note, in addition to the application, applicants will be required to submit an essay detailing how being a first generation college student has impacted their education journey along with a financial need statement.

This scholarship was created of the memory of Jae Ross to support CUNY SPS students enrolled in the M.A. Disability Studies program.

Award Amount: $2200, based on eligibility and merit. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Completed at least one semester in the M.A. in Disability Program at CUNY SPS (CUNY SPS)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in the semester for which the scholarship is awarded

Please note, in addition to the application, applicants will be required to submit a financial need statement along with an essay detailing their commitment to change society’s view on disabled/marginalized individuals.

  • Newly admitted students, priority will be given to applicants who were mentees (“Littles”) through Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Priority will be given to applicants who have been volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) through Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Completed at least 6 credits at the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS)
  • Part-time/full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the CUNY SPS Disability Studies Program
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA or higher
  • If the applicant pool(s) does/do not include a student with a disabled family member, the Scholarship Committee will choose the best eligible applicant(s)

Youth Studies Scholarship

This scholarship was established to support incoming or continuing graduate students enrolled in the Master’s of Youth Studies program at CUNY SPS.

Award Amount: $1500.00, based on eligibility and merit.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Graduate students enrolled in a minimum of 3 credits in the semester for which the scholarship is awarded
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA or higher for matriculated students
  • Please note, in addition to the application, applicants will be required to submit essays:
    • Confirming personal commitment to educational preparation of African American, Caribbean American, Latinx, or Asian students and/or students with disabilities, in leadership and research in the youth serving field and;
    • A personal statement including your commitment to the field, young people, their goals and how the scholarship will be beneficial to you
  • Students must also include a resume or CV with their application

ACE Scholarship

ACE (Achieve College Education) Full Tuition Scholarship and Peer Mentor Program

As part of their award requirements, ACE Scholars mentor newly admitted undergraduate students.

Award Amount: ACE Scholarships underwrite 100% of tuition and follow recipients through degree completion.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Undergraduate students who reside in New York State
  • Within 6 – 18 credits of graduation,
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Are enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits
  • Submit an additional essay describing your educational and career goals and how the ACE scholarship will help you achieve these goals

CAT/MAAT Graduate Apprenticeship Program for Diversity in Applied Theatre

Subject to the availability of funding, the CUNY Creative Arts Team (CAT) and the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) MA in Applied Theatre Program (MAAT) award graduate apprenticeships on an annual basis, to run from September 1 to June 30th in any academic year. The award may include:

  • Full tuition for two CUNY SPS classes per semester (a maximum of 4 classes per year)
  • An $8,000.00 annual stipend, paid out in four $2,000.00 installments in November, January, March, and June

Graduate apprentices are required to:

  • Assist in the implementation of CAT programs
  • Assist in research for programmatic initiatives, outreach, and curriculum development
  • Assist with administrative support in the day-to-day functioning of programs
  • Assist in the project review process

On behalf of the Newcombe Foundation, this scholarship is made available to newly admitted CUNY SPS undergraduate students working towards their first bachelor’s degree.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Must have completed at least 60 transferable credits towards their Bachelor’s Degree
  • Have earned a minimum of 2.5 GPA from prior college and/or university
  • Enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits for the awarded semester

CUNY SPS Debt Forgiveness Program

The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) Debt Forgiveness program has been established to provide eligible undergraduate students with past due balances additional temporary financial assistance so they have an opportunity to get back on track to complete their degrees.

Award Amount: up to $2000, based on financial need and good academic standing.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Completed a minimum of 12 credits at CUNY SPS
  • Plan to enroll or be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for awarded semester
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Have a past due tuition balance

On behalf of the New-York Historical Society, the Museum Studies scholarship is made available to students enrolled in the program and in support of diversity and inclusion initiatives within the field.

  • Admission to the MA in Museum Studies program
  • Enrollment in at least 6 credits
