Founding Dean's Scholarship

The Founding Dean’s Scholarship, endowed in perpetuity by the generous support of Dean John Mogulescu.

Award Amount: $500 Part-time, $1500 Full-time, based on financial need and academic merit. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS degree program on a part- or full-time basis
  • Completed at least 6 credits at CUNY SPS
William J. Kissane III Scholarship

Endowed in perpetuity by Robert Kissane (BS in Communication and Culture, ‘09), alumnus and CUNY SPS Foundation board member, in memory of his late brother, the William J. Kissane III Scholarship.

Award Amount: $1000, based on eligibility and merit. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a Disability Studies degree program (B.A., M.A. or M.S.) at CUNY SPS
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester, remain in academic good standing, and demonstrate financial need
Patti Lieberman Scholarship for Early Childhood Education

Endowed by the generous support of Patti Lieberman, CUNY SPS Foundation board member.

Award Amount: Varied. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

Bob Martin Memorial Scholarship

Established by Dr. Zeita-Marion Lobley, Director of Student Services, in memory of her late husband.

Award Amount: $1500, based on financial need and academic merit.  Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS online bachelor's or master's degree program on a part- or full-time basis
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Undergraduate students must be within 30 credits of graduation, and graduate students must be within 12 credits of graduation
Stephen M. Rossen Memorial Scholarship

Established by the generosity of the Rossen family.

Award Amount: $1500, based on financial need and academic merit. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS online bachelor's degree program on a part- or full-time basis
  • Undergraduate students must be within 30 credits of graduation
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
Schulman, Bomboy, and Gray Scholarship

Recognizes the work of Daralee Schulman, Dr. Marylee Bomboy, and Dr. Lois Gray, whose careers have focused on adult students.

Award Amount: Varied, based on financial need and academic merit. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Part-time/Full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the CUNY SPS Human Relations Program
  • Employed full-time
McKay Gussine Scholarship

Established by alumna, Jacqueline McKay (MS in Business Management and Leadership, ‘11).

Award Amount: Varied.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Admitted to or enrolled in degree programs CUNY SPS on a part- or full-time basis
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Newly admitted students, priority will be given to applicants who were mentees (“Littles”) through Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Priority will be given to applicants who have been volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) through Big Brothers Big Sisters
Timothy Meade Memorial Scholarship

Endowed in perpetuity by the generosity of founding donor, Tracy L. Meade, Senior Associate Dean for Strategy and Innovation, in memory of her late brother.

Award Amount: Varied, based on financial need and priority will be given to eligible applicants with a disabled family member. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Part-time/Full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the CUNY SPS Disability Studies Program
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA or higher
  • If the applicant pool(s) does/do not include a student with a disabled family member, the Scholarship Committee will choose the best eligible applicant(s).
Russ Peterson Technology Scholars

Created in memory of Russell Peterson and endowed in perpetuity by his family.

Award Amount: Varied, based on financial need and academic merit.  Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • BS in Information Systems, the BS in Health Information Management, or the MS in Data Analytics
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Undergraduate students must be within 30 credits of graduation, and graduate students must be within 12 credits of graduation. 
Eugene Walters Scholarship

Endowed by the Eugene Walters Family Foundation.

Award Amount: Varied, based on financial need and academic merit. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS online degree program on a part- or full-time basis
CUNY SPS U.S. Military Scholarship

Established by the CUNY SPS Foundation to support its military student community.

Award Amount: $1000, based on financial need and academic merit. Tuition only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS degree program on a part-time or full-time basis
  • Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher for undergraduates, minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher for graduates
  • Student must be an active or inactive military personnel to be eligible


Special Awards and Programs

ACE Scholarship

ACE (Achieve College Education) Full Tuition Scholarship and Peer Mentor Program

ACE Scholarships underwrite 100% of tuition and follow recipients through degree completion. The scholarship is open to undergraduate students who reside in New York State, are within 6 – 30 credits of graduation, maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, are enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits, and demonstrate financial need. As part of their award requirements, ACE Scholars mentor newly admitted undergraduate students.

Petrie Nurse Scholarship

The Petrie Nurse Scholars program provides tuition assistance to students enrolled in the CUNY SPS online bachelor’s degree in nursing (RN to BSN) who previously earned an applied science (AAS) degree with a major in nursing from a CUNY Community College, underwriting 100% of tuition, and follows recipients through degree completion.

CAT/MAAT Graduate Apprenticeship Program for Diversity in Applied Theatre

Subject to the availability of funding, the CUNY Creative Arts Team (CAT) and the CUNY SPS MA in Applied Theatre Program (MAAT) award graduate apprenticeships on an annual basis, to run from September 1 to June 30th in any academic year.  The award may include:

  • Full tuition for two CUNY SPS classes per semester (a maximum of 4 classes per year)
  • An $8,000.00 annual stipend, paid out in four $2,000.00 installments in November, January, March, and June

Graduate apprentices are required to:

  • Assist in the implementation of CAT programs
  • Assist in research for programmatic initiatives, outreach, and curriculum development
  • Assist with administrative support in the day-to-day functioning of programs
  • Assist in the project review process

JFK, Jr. Institute Online MS in Nursing Program Scholarship

The Online MS in Nursing Program Scholarship provides financial, academic, and career support to workers in the healthcare system pursuing an advanced nursing degree at the CUNY School of Professional Studies. Recipients of the scholarship will receive funding towards tuition in the semester for which they apply. Award amounts may vary and are based on financial need. CUNY SPS Museum Studies Scholarship

On behalf of the New-York Historical Society, the Museum Studies scholarship is made available to students admitted as part of the program’s first cohort and to provide support to students who are from under-represented groups or can demonstrate a commitment to diversity.

Award Amount: Up to 7 credits. Tuition-only scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Admission to the MA in Museum Studies program
  • Enrollment in at least 6 credits
  • Contribution to diversity and inclusion, as articulated by an essay that is part of the scholarship application

CUNY SPS Finish Line – Debt Forgiveness Grant

The Finish Line Program is to provide eligible undergraduate Student(s), with past due balances, additional temporary financial assistance so they have an opportunity to get back on track to complete their undergraduate degrees

Award Amount: up to $2000, based on financial need and good academic standing.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Completed a minimum of 12 credits at CUNY SPS
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Past due tuition balance

CUNY SPS Finish Line – Degree Completion Scholarship

In honor of Jeffrey and Shari Aronson, this charitable grant from Mark T. Gallogly and Ms. Elizabeth B. Strickler, supports adult, undergraduate learners who are current CUNY SPS students.

Award Amount: $200 - $1,500 based on financial need and academic merit.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS degree program on a part-time or a full-time basis
  • Student financial aid has expired or will not cover the cost of finishing a degree program
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Have 6 – 30 credits remaining to degree completion
CUNY SPS Emergency Textbook Grant

CUNY SPS Emergency Textbook Grant, offered by the CUNY SPS Foundation to support students with textbook costs.

Award Amount: up to $200, based on financial need and good academic standing.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a CUNY SPS degree program on a part-time or full-time basis.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits.
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA for undergraduates, Minimum 3.0 GPA for graduates.
  • Completed at least 6 credits at CUNY SPS.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • For undergraduate students, cannot apply if they already are in receipt of a Pell book advance.
  • Enrolled in courses with textbook costs.

*Please note: the scholarship application for fall 2019 will open on Tuesday, August 13th, 2019.

Scholarships and awards are subject to financial availability, and CUNY SPS reserves the right to reduce or rescind any scholarship or award if financial circumstances dictate. Scholarships may not be deferred. Recipients must use the scholarship in the year(s) for which it is awarded. CUNY employees receiving tuition waivers are not eligible for CUNY SPS scholarships.
