Discover the power of visual linguistic “accents”! Join us as we explore their role in shaping identity, challenging stereotypes, and fostering diverse literacies in media. Engage with the richness of language!
The presentation will discuss how visual linguistic “accents,” or the sounds of “accents,” of Latinx people in mainstream media and social media are more than comedic punch lines. These visual “accents” are digital bilingual scriptural economies and examples of diverse literacies. We will discuss what linguistic “accents” are, how they racialize Latinx communities, and how listeners should engage with “accents.”
