The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) is pleased to announce the publication of the Professional Education and Workplace Learning (PEWL) unit's fourth report highlighting its notable work.

Established in 2006, PEWL’s mission is to provide individuals with the opportunity to advance their careers through professional coursework, and help organizations achieve their goals with custom workplace learning programs. Since its inception, PEWL has served more than 300,000 people.

In 2022-2023, under the leadership of Executive Director Amy Perez, PEWL managed and implemented a portfolio of $34.7 million in grants and contracts. The unit develops and runs training programs for city and state agencies and private organizations.

The report features the return of in-person classes for the Managing for Innovation program and the Energy Management program; a revamped Financial Independence Now Learning and Coaching series; the CUNY/Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) team using technology to further agency goals and the growing offerings and co-design work of the Academy for Community Behavioral Health.

“We are thrilled to showcase PEWL's critical and diverse work,” said CUNY SPS Dean Dr. Lisa R. Braverman. “This dynamic unit partners with agencies and organizations to develop learning solutions and provides employees with professional development through a variety of programming. It's unique within the CUNY system. If you read the report, you'll see why."

Perez oversees the unit of more than 200 staff members located at CUNY SPS, downtown Manhattan, and upstate New York which propels people and organizations forward.

"We embed ourselves into agencies across the entire state of New York to understand their needs and help solve problems," she said.
