Peg Hickey

Peg Hickey, PhD, RN, CDCES, is a Clinical Professor of Nursing at the CUNY School of Professional Studies. With more than five years of experience in academic nursing, she has taught undergraduate and graduate nursing students across multiple learning environments. Dr. Hickey brings extensive clinical experience in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), where she has served as a staff nurse, quality improvement specialist, and nurse educator. As a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), she is dedicated to improving health outcomes through patient education and evidence-based practice.

Dr. Hickey earned her PhD in Nursing from Pace University in 2025. Her dissertation, Health Literacy and A1C: Evaluating Glycemic Control in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes, examined the relationship between health literacy and diabetes self-management. Her research interests include health literacy among vulnerable populations, diabetes education, and strategies to strengthen health literacy instruction in nursing education.
