Luis Gutierrez

Luis Gutierrez currently serves as the Assistant Director of AccessABILITY Services at Guttman Community College. At Guttman, he serves as an AccessABILITY liaison to students with disabilities. Luis also serves as the ABILITIES club advisor which represents all students with and without disabilities at Guttman. Previously, he worked at Bronx Community College with the Office for Students with Disabilities where he provided counseling to students with disabilities and provided them with resources to help them succeed with their academic goals. Luis had an opportunity to work as a Disability Specialist at the City College of New York where he was responsible for a number of students helping them explore career options and resources for academic support. He also worked with CUNY LEADS in connection with several campuses as a Disability and Outreach Coordinator assisting with legislative initiatives. He also conducted job readiness workshops, assessments, and treatment plans for individuals in the process of recovery from substance abuse at Phase Piggy Back (Now Known As Argus Community). Luis currently serves in the executive board of the CUNY Coalition for Students with Disabilities (CCSD) for several years which has provided him with the opportunity to help students with disabilities become empowered and independent advocates. He served in other leadership roles throughout the City University of New York which include Vice Chair of Graduate Student Affairs for the University Student Senate, President of the PossAbilities Club and Beyond the Limits Club for Students with Disabilities. Luis was the Vice President of Student Affairs for the Graduate Student Association at Hunter College, and a council member for The New York State Independent Living Council (NYSILC). The council is composed of 25 appointees from around the state, a majority of whom have disabilities, representing diverse cultures and needs in the state. Luis has a passion to serve others to help them reach their highest potential. He uses his experiences to continue making a difference in the lives of many.
