How does your current job relate to the field of business?

As the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Environment, Health and Safety at Con Edison, my job focuses on ethics, communications, organizational behavior and use of advanced applications, which are all tied to business.

What is the most gratifying aspect of your job?

The most gratifying aspect of my job is customer relations, satisfying expectations, and development within the company.

What is the most difficult aspect?

The most difficult aspect is meeting deadlines and relying on others to get the information needed by those deadlines.

Why did you choose to earn a BS in Business at CUNY SPS?

 I chose to earn a BS in Business because I wanted to further my career at work with a promotion. 

Why was it important for you to enroll in an online program?

It was important for me to enroll in an online program because I knew that it would give me flexibility, save me time, and allow me to interact as if I were in the classroom.

What motivated you to return to school to finish your bachelor’s degree?

My motivation was to have a chance to compete for a satisfying position with great pay and work-life balance.

What is your relationship like with your classmates and professors?

I have a wonderful relationship with my classmates and professors.  My online courses give me the opportunity to network and meet people from different places with different experiences from many cultures.

Which professional or personal goals do you think you achieved while at CUNY SPS?

I know that my communication and writing skills improved while enrolled in the program.  I am using what I am studying in my career now to understand the mechanics behind the work.  My personal goals are being satisfied because I am studying and able meet the expectations I have set for myself.

In which ways have you grown as a result of your studies at CUNY SPS? 

I have grown as a result of my studies at CUNY SPS by learning transferable skills that I actually use in my roles in daily work as well as having a questioning attitude when it comes to my personal life.  I now investigate what I read and research if the information is truthful.

What kind of impact do you think your degree will have on your career/life?

I believe my degree will catapult me into a promotion with a higher level and I will gain respect because of my hard work at school shown by my GPA.

What’s the greatest piece of advice you’ve received while at CUNY SPS? 

The greatest piece of advice I received was from another student who told me to enjoy my experiences at school and see each day as an opportunity to learn something new. 

What advice would you offer someone considering applying for admission to your program? 

I would tell them that online study is great as long as you are committed to making the dream work.  You must be prepared to adhere to a dedicated time schedule and plan your work.  You will need to stay on task with your assignments, reach out for help, and ask lots of questions and take notes.  It is best to work with your academic advisor and keep abreast of school activities and events that may be able to help you in any area you need.

What does your future look like after CUNY SPS? 

I plan to apply for my master’s degree after a year, forge ahead to be a great communicator, and help others to strive to do their best.
