CUNY SPS Honors Student Leaders in Inaugural Ceremony

On May 4, the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) hosted its first-ever Student Leadership and Service Recognition Ceremony to acknowledge the outstanding leadership and service demonstrated by CUNY SPS students, particularly over the past year. Approximately 80 members of the School community, including a large number of the nearly 50 students who were honored during the event, attended. 

The hour-long ceremony featured remarks by Jennifer Grace Lee, associate dean for enrollment management and student services at CUNY SPS, Dean John Mogulescu, CUNY SPS club advisors, and Dr. Ian James, CUNY Deputy to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, who delivered the keynote address.

Dean Mogulescu, in his comments, reflected upon the commitment of CUNY SPS students during the COVID shutdown. “What our students accomplished and how they kept focused was truly extraordinary. Since last fall, we’ve welcomed seven new student clubs and organizations, with more coming soon…And in each of those clubs the common denominator is that you have taken time out from work and school and all that you do to build partnerships and make a difference. We are so enormously grateful for that.”

In his keynote speech, Dr. James shared some of his own experiences as a student leader and offered words of advice and encouragement. “As student leaders, you have been entrusted with the awesome responsibility of the governance of this college. Don’t take that lightly. You have been selected to represent the student body and to give voice to student interests and concerns. You have the opportunity to influence the direction, qualities, and practices of the college in ways that support students’ goals. In the process, if you apply yourself, you will benefit off a great educational legacy experience.”

Following Dr. James’ address, CUNY SPS club advisors spoke, offering their gratitude to those students who have contributed so much to their clubs, organizations, and committees.  A complete list of clubs whose members were honored in the ceremony include:

For over 15 years, the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) has been leading online education in New York.
