The City University of New York School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) has been ranked in the top 5 percent in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs for 2020, marking the sixth year in a row that the School has been highly ranked by the publisher. CUNY SPS now ranks 16th in the nation and is 12th on the list of Best Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs for Veterans, according to the report published today. With this ranking, CUNY SPS continues to be the highest listed program in New York State and New York City.

“This good news further confirms the rigor of CUNY School of Professional Studies’ academic offerings as well as the school’s commitment to provide exceptional online educational opportunities to New Yorkers from all backgrounds, including many working adults who would otherwise find it difficult to obtain a degree,” said CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez. “We are proud of the reputation CUNY SPS has gained for its online programs, which help the University fulfill its historic mission to provide a top-quality, affordable education for all who seek one.”

The U.S. News & World Report’s continued high ranking of CUNY SPS offers validation of the educational programs the School has been providing since 2006 to meet the needs of adults who are looking to finish a bachelor’s degree, advance in the workplace, or change careers. CUNY SPS, which has the distinction of being the first CUNY School to offer fully online bachelor’s degree programs, was founded to specifically address the demands of evolving workplaces and disciplines by providing customized and flexible programs of study for working adults.

John Mogulescu, dean of CUNY SPS, said, “To be recognized so highly by U.S. News & World Report again is a true honor, and acknowledges the hard work and dedication of CUNY SPS faculty and staff to ensure working adults receive an exemplary education that will enable them to obtain their diplomas, excel in the workplace, and enrich themselves and their communities.”

In keeping with this mission, CUNY SPS also offers low in-state tuition to all and opportunities that make attending school more accessible, including Zero Textbook Cost courses, Credit for Prior Learning, and credit for work experience and training, in order to help adult students on their path to college completion and career advancement.

Through all these efforts, CUNY SPS has emerged as the University’s leader in online learning, a flexible, low-cost, and empowering pedagogical tool that has provided thousands of working New Yorkers—as well as students around the world—with access to educational opportunities they may not have otherwise.

U.S. News & World Report assessed CUNY SPS and over 350 other institutions using a methodology based on four weighted categories, including engagement, services and technologies, faculty credentials and training, and expert opinion among peers.
