Part of the Class of 2020 MA in Applied Theatre Thesis Presentations.

Presenter: Kevin Higgins

This seven-week project investigated the many ways applied theatre practices, including hot-seating and role in a bag, could be used with younger adults on the autism spectrum to practice self-advocacy. The project took place in an organization that helps people on the autism spectrum practice job and life building skills and drew upon applied theatre techniques to get them to practice self-advocacy. Through these techniques, 20 participants from the program explored the way they could stand up for themselves in any social situation, as long as they had to.
