Why did you choose to continue your education at CUNY SPS? Why the online MS in Business Management and Leadership?
Education has always been a priority for me. I chose to continue my education at CUNY SPS because I like the way the program was designed, which has given me the opportunity to choose the courses I am interested in. Second, I appreciate the flexibility offered by the School and its online programs. Students can take their courses at their own pace. Finally, I love how affordable the master’s program is. I am a New Jersey Resident, so I would have to pay a much higher tuition rate if I were to take on campus classes at another institution. With the online Master’s Degree in Business Management and Leadership, everybody received the in-state tuition rate, no matter where they live.
Did you ever think that you would enroll in an online program?
I’ve always wanted to be a part of an online degree program. I always knew that it would be the best option for me especially when I was an undergrad student and working two jobs to sustain myself. At that time, I wished for an online program. I took a couple of classes online while attending Lehman College, however, the number of courses they offered online was very limited.
What was your motivation for going back to school to earn your master’s degree?
My main motivation for pursuing my master’s degree is the chance for career growth.
Which aspects of the program have you enjoyed most so far?
I love the flexibility of the program.
What is your relationship like with your classmates and professors?
We communicate as much as we can via email and telephone. This semester, I was able to meet with some of my classmate at the spring reception, which was nice since we never met in-person before.
How does the degree relate to your career that you have OR the career that you want?
Everything I am currently learning in class helps me understand what I do at work. My courses guide me through my everyday assignments, and also help me polish my leadership skills.
Which professional or personal goals would you like to achieve during your time at CUNY SPS?
I am really hoping to be part of the student association if my busy schedule allows me to. I am always looking to use my leadership skills in a productive way and to be involved in the school community
In which ways have you grown so far as a result of your studies at CUNY SPS?
It is a fulfilling learning experience. The courses that I took so far helped me grow on a professional level, especially at work. In addition, my courses help me better understand my professional climate.
What advice would you offer someone considering applying for admission to your program? What advice can you offer someone who is juggling, school, work, and other obligations?
The program offers a lot of flexibility. I am a full-time employee, a single mother, a leader in my community, and work occasionally on weekends, as well. With the online program at CUNY SPS, I can manage my time accordingly, study, and participate in courses based on my schedule.
What do you hope to do after graduating from CUNY SPS? What does your future look like?
After graduation, I hope to obtain a better position in human resources while working for CUNY or a nonprofit organization.
