For Ninth Year Running, Celebrated Online Leader in Education is Ranked One of Top in the Nation; School is Also Recognized for its Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans and BA in Psychology

The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) has been rated by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top online schools in the nation for the ninth consecutive year.

CUNY SPS was ranked #11 in the nation out of more than 348 schools on U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 list of Best Online Bachelor’s Programs, with a score of 91 out of 100. The School also remains the highest listed in New York City.

Additionally, CUNY SPS was named #3 in the nation on U.S. News & World Report’s list of Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans.

In a third accolade, the CUNY SPS Online BA in Psychology program was also ranked #8 in the nation on the publisher’s list of Best Online Bachelor’s Programs in Psychology.

To determine these ratings, U.S. News & World Report uses a methodology that assesses four weighted categories, including engagement, services and technologies, faculty credentials and training, and peer assessment.

“Once again, the CUNY School of Professional Studies is a proven leader in online education and a source of pride for our University as we strive to offer a greater diversity of programs and increase flexibility to meet the varied needs of our students,” said Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez.

“The U.S. News & World Report rankings confirm what we keep hearing from our amazing students—that CUNY SPS offers comprehensive, affordable, accessible online degree programs, and a great education compared with the cost of a private college,” said CUNY SPS Dean Dr. Lisa R. Braverman. “We are passionate about helping working adults earn their college degrees and are elated by this public recognition of our accomplishments.”

These stellar rankings stand as a testament to CUNY SPS’ longstanding commitment to providing a high-quality online academic experience, which the School has honed since it began offering online degree programs back in 2006.

Lennyn Jacob, a student in the BA in Disability Studies program, is one of the many thousands of students who have thrived due to CUNY SPS’ exceptional online classes.

“CUNY SPS is a special place where flexibility, community, and opportunity intersect to guarantee student success,” Jacob said. “As an online school, CUNY SPS allows students with different cultural backgrounds the chance to pursue a degree regardless of their location. It also allows flexibility as we balance work, school, and our lives through asynchronous courses…Well-rounded success is only a click away at CUNY SPS.”

School Earns Highest Marks for Veteran Offerings

U.S. News & World Report also continues to recognize CUNY SPS for its wide-ranging support of military veteran students. This year, CUNY SPS was rated 3 out of 91 schools on the publisher’s 2024 list of Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans.

This top rating was assessed based on CUNY SPS’ vast network of services, resources, financial assistance, and customized support offered by the CUNY SPS Office of Military and Veteran Student Services (OMVSS).

For veteran students like Valentina Sevillano, a member of NYS Army National Guard and alum of the MA in Psychology program, CUNY SPS’ online programs and supportive community have been ideal for her needs.

“CUNY SPS is a great place for service members, who often have to work while taking care of their family. But with its flexible online programs, they can still find the time to finish their degree,” Sevillano said. “For me, this is the main reason why I’m so attracted to CUNY SPS—I can proceed with my studies at my own pace and still serve my country.”
