Certificate in Program Management FAQs

This Advanced Certificate is not the same as the PMP Certification. The Advanced Project Management Certificate is an academic program that focuses on the application of PMI-based principles.  The PMP Certification is a lengthy exam and you must meet certain requirements in order to be approved to sit for the exam. Be sure to visit the PMI website for full details.

This course does meet the 35-hour training requirement for the PMP Exam. However, this course is not designed to be a boot-camp or test-prep course. To fully prepare for the exam, you would need to devote additional study time and the local chapter of PMI does host study groups for this purpose.

In PROM600 you will be introduced to the basic concepts of Project management. PROM601 deals with the leadership and communication aspects of projects.  PROM602 integrates the project management concepts with the managerial aspects of maintaining the parameters of the project such as budget and schedule.

The course is designed for working professionals and the asynchronous nature of the course allows you to schedule your study time in a way that best fits your needs. There are weekly deadlines for assignments and you can work ahead if you choose to do so. Approximately 9 hours per week should be sufficient and you can determine how you allocate those hours as long as you meet the weekly deadlines.

Project management is used in almost every industry and the course includes examples from a wide variety of projects around the world.  You will be completing assignments that require you to use the techniques that are common in project management daily work. You will also be learning the basics of MS Project software — the gold standard for digitally managing large, complex projects.
