Online
In this session, we'll explore what kindness means in academic contexts, how it relates to UDL, and how it intersects with our teaching and working practices.
We'll discuss:
What does kindness look like in teaching, student support, and the online/asynchronous environment?
How does kindness relate to UDL principles?
How can we navigate kindness alongside program learning outcomes, disciplinary standards, academic rigor, deadlines, accommodations, and student needs?
When and how do we assert boundaries, and what are the responsibilities of both instructors and students?
Optional Reading: We recommend the introductory chapter from A Pedagogy of Kindness (2024) by C.J. Denial as a conversation starter and introduction to the idea of a pedagogy of kindness. A PDF of the chapter is available on our Open Lab website: https://openlab.sps.cuny.edu/sps-udl-collaborative/readings-and-resources/
