The CIED, in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources is committed to providing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) focused community-learning and professional development opportunities for CUNY SPS faculty and staff.  We are proud to present the first CUNY SPS “Professional Development Day: Enhancing Emotional Intelligence and Cultural Competency to embrace Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace” as an opportunity to learn about emotional intelligence, how to increase one’s emotional quotient (EQ), and develop and enhance cultural competency and awareness.

The learning objectives for this training are:

  • Participants will begin to develop or build existing emotional intelligence and cultural competencies to enhance their understanding of EDI
  • Participants will understand how EDI can enrich their professional development and career goals
  • Participants will find tools to support engaging with colleagues within a robust EDI framework
  • A survey will be distributed to all participants to provide their feedback on the workshop
  • A second survey will be distributed after 6 months to participants to document any changes in workplace interaction and engagement

This training will be led by Dr. Kinette Richards, PhD, NCC, owner and operator of Creating Space Equity Consulting, LLC, a diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice LLC. Dr. Richards is a licensed school psychologist, and nationally certified counselor, with a background in clinical mental health, working with clientele aged pre-school through adults. Dr. Richards has over twenty years of experience working on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, race, and social justice, and is committed to working across differences to train and open dialogue on equity issues. During the past twenty years, she has taken a lead role in the discussion and training of staff members at school and district levels, workforce and business organizations, on issues of implicit bias, equity, achievement, opportunity gaps, conversations about race with students, affinity groups for students and staff of color, disproportionate discipline, culturally relevant classrooms, trauma informed practices, and race.

This event is virtual and is on a first come, first served basis only for full-time and part-time faculty and staff.
