Q & A

What does the NFA experience mean to you?
“The fellowship has been such a wonderful platform to grow, learn and expand on my knowledge. As a professional development specialist, I have been able to implement several concepts learned in the advanced nursing educator fellowship into practice. Now in the rising leader fellowship I hope to take what I am learning and operate from a place of greater emotional intelligence and grow as a leader.”

️How has the NFA education impacted your nursing career?
“In the advanced nursing educator fellowship, I was able to really crystalize concepts that I had learned in prior graduate coursework (i.e. curricular design, evaluation theory, learning facilitation). The experience led to a greater grasp of the concepts and ultimately more confidence in applying into practice. Now as I look into next steps in my career the rising leader fellowship may prove to be invaluable as I step into more of a leadership role.”

️What impacted did the NFA education have on your patients?
“The knowledge and skills that I learned and honed in the program have led to real changes in my professional development practice. I have been able to institute an entire overhaul of my institution's competency management structure. The new structure is more streamlined, cost efficient and results in less disruption to nursing workflow and less time for nurses away from their patients. This ultimately translates to more nurse to patient time, increased patient safety and better outcomes.”

"The small cohort size is one of the Academy’s greatest strengths. It allows for honest conversation, shared problem-solving, and the kind of mentorship that simply isn’t possible in large or rushed training formats."

Q & A

What makes the NFA stand out?

For me, the NFA stands out because it creates a professional home that nurses may not experience in their day-to-day work. As someone who helped design elements of the Academy and who has served as a clinician, leader, and educator, I’ve seen firsthand how transformative a well-supported live learning community can be.

What makes the NFA truly unique is the way it supports nurses across the full spectrum of professional roles, whether they’re stepping into clinical precepting for the first time, building foundational skills as an entry-level educator, or strengthening their influence as advanced educators or leaders. The pathways are intentionally designed so that every nurse, regardless of experience, can grow with structure, purpose, and confidence.
The heart of the program is the live learning community sessions. These small groups, guided by an experienced facilitator, create a space where nurses can slow down, engage in deep thinking, and learn from each other’s lived clinical realities. The small cohort size is one of the Academy’s greatest strengths. It allows for honest conversation, shared problem-solving, and the kind of mentorship that simply isn’t possible in large or rushed training formats.

The NFA also stands out because it recognizes the full humanity of nurses. It honors the fact that we show up with different experiences, identities, opportunities, and strengths. The blend of reflection, clinical application, and community makes the learning not only competency-based, but grounding and restorative.
