Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Cel-Liberation Day, is celebrated annually on June 19th to mark the day in 1865 when Union general Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and read a federal order to the public announcing that all enslaved people were now free.
