Celebrating Women's History Month
Dear Members of the CUNY SPS Community:
Tuesday, March 1 marks the beginning of Women’s History Month, an annual observance that recognizes women’s accomplishments and contributions to our nation’s history, society, and culture.
This March, I encourage you all to celebrate by exploring the resources and events that the CUNY SPS Committee for Institutional Equity and Diversity (CIED) has compiled in honor of Women’s History Month:
Women’s History Month Events and Exhibitions Around the New York Metro Area
- Join NYC Parks for concerts, workshops, and nature events all celebrating Women’s History Month
- New York Public Library hosts a month of Women’s History Month events and programs for adults, teens, and kids
- New-York Historical Society Museum and Library offers exhibitions, films, workshops, and more
National Organizations with Women’s History Month Information and Programming
- History.com details a timeline of important events and the women leaders who paved the way
- Smithsonian Magazine explores some of the most significant achievements made by women in the past century, decade by decade
- National Geographic provides references for kids
- USAToday curates 12 films to watch for Women’s History Month
- Pen America’s March reading list compiles stories about and by women from numerous time periods and backgrounds

- March 8: International Women's Day
This year’s International Women’s Day is dedicated to celebrating women’s achievement, raising awareness against bias, and taking action for equality. How do you plan to help #BreakTheBias?
- March 10: Harriet Tubman Day
Sponsored by Ms. Magazine, the event Tubman 200: Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Project honors her extraordinary life and achievements.
