Dear CUNY SPS Community,
It is with great excitement that I invite you all to join us in celebrating Pride Month this June at CUNY SPS. This is a time for us to honor the rich history, vibrant culture, and invaluable contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community, both within our School and around the world. It is also an opportunity for us to reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
With this in mind, I would like to spotlight a few Pride Month events offered by the CUNY LGBTQIA+ Consortium, of which CUNY SPS has been a proud member since 2023. Housed at CUNY’s LaGuardia & Wagner Archives, the Consortium facilitates the archiving of LGBTQIA+ history across New York, and supports LGBTQIA+ training, education, and programming. This June, the Consortium will host a series of events and activities that aim to educate, inspire, and celebrate the diversity that makes our CUNY community so unique. Here are a few highlights:
12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Location: Queens College Quad (Rain Location: Main Dining Hall)
Join us for free T-Shirts, performances, tasty treats. This event is public and open to the community!
Pride Writing Club: On Queer Intimacies At The MoMA
6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Location: Museum of Modern Art
Join CLAGS at the Museum of Modern Art for a writing workshop with Amber Jamilla Musser!
6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Location: CUNY Graduate Center
Join us for a conversation with internationally recognized author, poet, comedian, and public speaker Alok Vaid-Menon, who will be receiving the 2024 Muñoz Award, which honors an LGBTQ community leader or activist for their advocacy for queer and transgender communities and LGBTQ communities of color. Presented with CLAGS, the Center for LGBTQ Studies. This event is generously supported by LaGuardia Community College and the New York City Council LGBT and Queer Caucus.
6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Location: Hunter College
The Gay Rights Bill in New York faced a fifteen-year battle within the City Council to approve it. Join our LaGuardia Wagner Archives staff for an amazing digital exhibit and panel!
