The Committee on Institutional Equity and Diversity (CIED) invites students, faculty, and staff to join the CIED Reading Circle: The 1619 Project, a year-long lunch-hour discussion series that brings our campus community together through thoughtful conversation, shared learning, and connection.
Together, we'll explore The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story, an award-winning collection that examines the enduring legacy of slavery and its impact on American history, culture, and society. Through essays, poetry, and historical narratives, the book offers opportunities to reflect on the past and consider its relevance today.
Participants can read or listen to chapters on their own. We will then come together over lunch for an engaging and respectful discussion.
Access the Book:
• Print Book: The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story (available through most booksellers and libraries).
• Audiobook: Available through platforms such as Audible, Spotify Audiobooks, Apple Books, and Google Play Books.
• Library Access: Check your local public library or the CUNY Library system for print, eBook, or audiobook availability.
