Please join the Office of Human Resources and Master Gardener Bernadette Robinson for a mindful, educational seed starting exercise that will help ground you for the upcoming growing season and demonstrate how organic gardening practices can keep us present during increasingly stressful times.

We will discuss ways that organic gardening positively impacts our environment, including benefits to pollinators, food supply and ground water, among other things. We’ll also have a question and answer session, so please feel free to bring some gardening questions!

This event is open to CUNY SPS staff and faculty and their families.

Items you should assemble prior to the event:
• Seeds that you want to plant, along with the seed packet they came in (for identification and planting instructions)
• Small Containers for starting the seeds in (could be recycled egg cartons, yogurt containers, cardboard toilet paper rolls, small paper cups, etc.)
• Potting Mix (ideally a substrate meant for seed starting)
• Small Watering Can or Bottle (ideally a small watering can with a gentle sprinkle nozzle or a small spray bottle)
• Plant ID Tags (could be recycled Popsicle sticks, bread ties, strips cut from plastic containers, etc.)
• Marker/Sharpie (for writing on the plant tags)
• Waterproof Tray (to put the pots in to retain water and keep furniture safe)

Bernadette Robinson, Master Gardener, has an academic and career background in both mental health care and sustainable horticulture. Her aim is to engage communities with the use of plant-based activities that promote overall wellness and reconnect people to the land.
