CUNY SPS Inaugural Black Graduation 2021

The ceremony is a pre-Commencement celebration to honor Black students who through unyielding determination have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate degree from the CUNY School of Professional Studies. Most of our CUNY SPS students are first generation college students who have persisted against the many obstacles confronting them in their journey toward their degrees. This is a celebration for graduates to be recognized for their accomplishments and be honored together for their hard work and dedication.

This event will include an address from Dr. Sharif (Herukhuti) Williams and a student speaker. Esteemed faculty and staff will also be in attendance at this event.

Due to technological limitations:
1. Only the first 100 graduates to register will be recognized during the event.
2. The event attendance is capped.

Eligibility
The Black Graduation Ceremony honors Black undergraduate and graduate students, so if you will complete degree requirements by the end of Spring 2021, we would love for you to participate!

Format
As you all know, we are adjusting to our new normal (in response to COVID-19); therefore, we will be providing the Black Graduation Ceremony in a virtual format via Zoom. The virtual ceremony will take place during the evening on Friday, May 14th, 2021, from 6:00-7:30 pm.

Registration
For Black Graduates: If you would like to be recognized as a Black graduate, you must fill out this Google Form. We are looking for potential student speakers to address the graduating class, please indicate your interest in the form. All responses must be received by Wednesday May 5th, 2021, in order to be recognized in the ceremony.

For Black Graduates and Attendees: You must register for the Zoom meeting. This step is required for all attendees to receive the Zoom link for the graduation.
