Certificate in Labor Relations

The Certificate in Labor Relations, offered through an educational partnership between Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and CUNY SPS’ Joseph S. Murphy Institute, provides NYC area union members, officers and staff with practical knowledge, skills and resources needed to be effective practitioners in the field of labor and industrial relations.

The program is designed to provide students with skills in the areas of collective bargaining, organizing, labor law, arbitration, contract negotiation, organizational administration and leadership development. These skills are useful for careers in union organizing, labor relations, strategic research, employment law and mediation.

The program is offered through CUNY SPS’s Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies.

Admission Criteria

Candidates for admission to undergraduate level certificate programs must possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
