Malave Leadership Academy Program
The Malave Leadership Academy Program provides an advanced level of academic and co-curricular opportunities for students who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership on their campuses and in their communities. This innovative year-long program brings together best practices in leadership development and education from across CUNY, and beyond. Participants experience state of the art multicultural leadership education with emphases on service, community building, global perspectives, and innovation. The primary program areas include:
- An academic seminar series
- Individualized professional development
- Experiential service learning
The two core programs of the Academy are The Campus Leadership and Service Skills (CLASS), and the Student Investment Ambassadors.
CUNY Corps develops students’ leadership values and skills through experiential civic engagement and community service learning opportunities. Within the context of concerns that face metropolitan areas, CUNY Corps seeks to provide students with experiences that increase their awareness of social issues and allows them to explore potential solutions. CUNY Corps is ideal for students who wish to engage in a variety of community service activities that address social problems while learning the skills necessary for planning collaborative service initiatives and events. Beyond the activities that they participate in with CUNY Corps, students must be able to perform a minimum of 40 hours of service on their campus, during the 2012-2013 Academic Year.
CUNY Corps will utilize Leadership for a Better World and a civic engagement skills curriculum.
Student Investment Ambassadors
The Student Investment Advocate’s (SIA) Program develops students’ leadership values and skills through experiential civic engagement and advocacy activities. Within the context of University legislative priorities, SIA seeks to provide students with direct and transferable experiences in the political, legislative, and budgetary processes on the city, state and federal levels. SIA is ideal for students who express an interest in having an impact on public policy or wish to participate in the political process.
SIA will utilize the Student Leadership Challenge and a civic engagement skills curriculum.
