Students who are currently enrolled in a degree program at a CUNY campus may register for SPS courses through ePermit. In many cases, SPS courses are considered equivalent to and may be substituted for courses in CUNY degree programs. Through ePermit, students file an online request to take an SPS course. As part of the ePermit process, registrars and faculty advisors at the student's home college must approve this request. Students are kept informed via email of the status of their permit requests. If the student's home college rejects the request, he or she is notified via email, with the reason indicated in the email message.
To access ePermit, students should go to the CUNY Portal Login page. Once on the University's Login page, students initially will have to register for a CUNY Portal ID and password by clicking on "Register" and following the directions. Once registered and logged in, students will find themselves on "My Page" with a link to ePermit prominently displayed. Detailed instructions for filing a permit request are available on the ePermit site.
Students pay for an approved permit course at their home colleges. Grades for courses taken on permit are posted to students' records and are counted in the computation of a student's GPA.
To be eligible to take a course on permit at another CUNY college, students must:
- Be matriculated and currently in attendance at the home college.
- If an undergraduate student, have a GPA of at least 2.00
- If a graduate student, have a GPA of at least 3.00
- Have no stops on their record; and
- Have all required immunizations required by the home college.
Please note that the home college may place limits on the number of credits that students take on permit.
