The graduate student's School of Professional Studies grade (A, B, C, or F) reflects assessment by the instructor of key course components. The following grades are assigned:
| A | 4.0 (or A- 3.7) |
| B | 3.0 (or B+ 3.3 or B-2.7) |
| C | 2.0 (or C+ 2.3 or C- 1.7) |
| F | 0.0 (Failure) |
| INC | Incomplete. This is a temporary grade. The course instructor may grant an INC at the request of the student if attendance requirements have been met and the only outstanding work is a paper, project, or examination. The outstanding coursework must be completed by the end of the Fall or Spring semester following the semester in which the INC is assigned. If the work is not completed, the INC remains permanently on the student's record.
The instructor has the right to refuse the request, and may set a time limit for completion of the coursework that is sooner than the end of the following semester. The INC, when completed, will be replaced by a letter grade and a notation made of the date of this change on the student's transcript.

| W | Withdrawal without Academic Penalty. A permanent grade requested by the student after the course has begun, and before the last class session. This grade is assigned by the Coordinator of Student Services at the written request of the student and does not affect the student's grade point average. |
| WA | Administrative Withdrawal. This grade, which does not affect the grade point average, is administratively assigned. |
| WU | Unofficial Withdrawal. The grade is calculated as an "F" and the student may be barred from future course registrations. Assigned by the instructor if the student stops attending without notification. |
Satisfactory Academic Progress & Appeals
Students enrolled in post-baccalaureate certificate programs are expected to make satisfactory academic progress, ideally maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA. When a certificate student's GPA falls below 3.0, the student is subject to academic review by the Coordinator of Student Services. In general, graduate programs throughout CUNY expect applicants to present an academic record with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
If a student finds that a matter such as an assigned grade or determination of satisfactory academic progress is not satisfactorily resolved between the student and teacher, the student may petition the SPS Committee on Academic Appeals and Discipline, which hears student appeals on grades, determinations of satisfactory progress, plagiarism and related matters.
